The event will be held on Tuesday, September 7 from 7pm and is an initiative of United Way Glenelg. The other two presenters are Wayne Barret from Portland Community Garden and Mick Doherty from the Portland Yacht Club.
Ms Wray said her motivation for the playground was to create a special place for aged care residents at Edgarley and the little people in the lives to make memories.
“The idea of the playground is to that we can encourage visits from the younger generation to have that relationship and that connection to all generations,” she said.
“The children of our community – it gives them a special moment of time with somebody that will benefit them in their own way by improving their health and their wellbeing and the quality of care that is given in our nursing home.
“It’s a moment of time that sometimes we can’t get back…here we talk about that it’s not about the quantity it’s about the quality.”
Ms Wray said by having a dedicated playground, residents and their young visitors would have a safe environment to make special, lasting memories.
“They can tell stories, reminisce and just enjoy the moment and be in the moment with that person, with that child, with that family member,” she said.
“We’re going to be leaving this legacy for future generations. We are really trying to be that point of different for aged care in this region.”
